What We Can Learn in a Wilderness

“All Kinds of Prayer” Part 9

“Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.” So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation” (Exodus 17:8-16) NLJV

“But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me” (Rom 7:23) BSB.

“… he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now” (Gal. 4:29).

“The Spirit and your desires are enemies of each other. They are always fighting each other and keeping you from doing what you feel you should” (Gal. 5:17) CEV

“to abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul. (1 Pet. 2: 11) BSB.

“sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace” (Rom. 6: 14) NKJV

“And Moses said to Joshua, “Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand” (Exodus 17: 9)

“And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed... (Ex. 17:11) NKJV

“Hear the voice of my supplications When I cry to You, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary” (Psalm 28:2)

“I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting” (1 Tim. 2: 8).

“But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun” (Ex. 17:12).

“The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mk. 14: 38)

“that they should always pray and never give up… (Lk. 18:1) NLT.

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:25) NKJV

“But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you” (John 14:26) NLT.

“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1) NKJV.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Rom. 8:26) NKJV

“So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword” (Ex. 17:13) NKJV.

“I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven” (Mt. 18: 19):

“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions” Gal. 5:16-17) NIV

“For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom. 8: 6-8) NKJV

“But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me” (Rom 7:23) BSB.

“sword” (Ex. 17: 13).

“For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Heb. 4:12) NASB.

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like” (Jam. 1:22-24) BSB.

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Eph. 6:17-18) NKJV

“It is written” (Mt. 4: 4, 7, 10)

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven” (Ex. 17: 14) NKJV

“Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory. “O Death, where is your sting?

O Hades, where is your victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor. 15: 50-57).

“Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; for he said, “Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation” (Ex. 17: 15-16)
